Robert Cheng, PT, DPT, OCS, COMT

Dr. Robert Cheng obtained his Physical Therapy degree from the University of Connecticut in 1998 and completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Boston University 2007. Originally from New England, Robert’s vast experiences include working in small community based hospitals, large teaching hospitals including the famed Rusk Institute at NYU Medical Center, home care and outpatient private practice giving him a complete perspective of the patient experience. While in New York City, Robert was designated as a “Master Clinician” by the NYU School of Physical Therapy for his work with their student program and assistance with their musculoskeletal interventions class. In addition to his work as a clinician he has also held several administrative positions including managing a busy private practice in NYC as well as recently serving as the Supervisor of Physical Therapy at the University of Washington’s Sports Medicine Center at Husky Stadium. He is board certified by the American Physical Therapy Association as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and is a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist through Maitland-Australian Physiotherapy. He is also FMS Level 1 Certified, Graston Certified and is an APTA Certified Clinical Instructor.

While working at Swedish Medical Center, Robert served as the Center Coordinator for Clinical Education and was also a faculty member and lecturer for Swedish’s annual Orthopedics Symposium for the PCP. During his tenure at the University of Washington’s Sports Medicine Center he assisted in the development of their Golf Medicine program, ACL and Shoulder post-operative rehab protocols, and facilitated the first PT Grand Rounds series.

Robert places an emphasis on patient education and understanding of the injury and recovery process. He also encourages the practice of mindfulness as an effective way to manage and alleviate symptoms, to facilitate the recovery process and enhance overall performance. Robert enjoys the challenge of working with patients who have not succeeded elsewhere in their physical therapy rehab.

Running, marathons, triathlons, cycling/bike fitting, telemark skiing, hiking with his golden retriever, Winnie, and eating and drinking his way through the PNW!
